For homeschool families that want a complete, easy-to-use course for AP® Physics 1
Everything you need in one place
Don’t waste time piecing together a physics curriculum from different sources that aren’t aligned with AP® Physics 1. This course has everything you need, no other resources needed.
Flexible scheduling
Use the pacing guide to create a custom schedule and plan out your lessons for each week. The course is self-paced and flexible so you can customize it to fit your schedule.
Virtual and hands-on labs
Choose between virtual labs, hands-on labs, or both. Each unit has both types of labs so you can decide which ones to do. Use the lab guide to plan ahead and see which materials you need.
Discord server and support
If your student needs any help, they can ask questions in the Discord server and get help from the course instructor and other students. You can also email the instructor any time.
Aligned with AP® Physics 1 for 2025-2026
This course follows the AP® Physics 1 curriculum and is updated for the 2026 AP® exam. It includes the new Fluids unit, more connections between circular and rotational motion, and more.
Use any time with multiple students
You get lifetime access to the course so you can start any time and work through it at your own pace. You can also use the course again with multiple students at no extra cost.
“The Physics Lab course was perfect for my homeschooled highschooler because I know nothing about physics and it was all included. Video lessons, practice problems and most importantly, example problems which show the student how it's done. Also important is the live help through the discord server. All of these combined make this a great physics course for a homeschooler."
“I cannot say how much we appreciated your website. Everything is so organized, well-planned and loaded with valuable information.”
“I used Physics Lab all year for AP Physics 1, and it was by far the most helpful resource I found. Unlike the Princeton Review books, which are mostly just good for last-minute review, Physics Lab actually goes in-depth and supports you throughout the whole course. The explanations are clear, the practice is challenging and aligned with the AP style, and it made concepts that initially felt impossible actually make sense. Highly recommend it if you're serious about understanding the material - not just memorizing it."

What is the format of the course and how do I access the materials?
This is an online course and all of the videos and materials can be viewed on the website, organized by unit and topic page. You can also download and print the study guides, problems and labs. Each resource in the course has a download link next to it, but there is also a dedicated page with links to download all of the resources together.
Which grade levels is this course designed for?
This course covers the curriculum for AP® Physics 1, usually taken in grades 9-12. Students in earlier grades can also use the course if they’re very comfortable with algebra, and you can preview the course to see if it’s a good fit.
What are the prerequisites for this course?
No prior physics knowledge is needed to use this course. You should be comfortable with algebra (rearranging and solving equations for unknown variables). It may help to know some basic trigonometry (such as sin, cos and tan functions) but that’s covered in the Basics section of the course and explained when ever it comes up.
Is this course aligned with the 2025-2026 AP® Physics 1 curriculum?
Yes, this course is aligned with the 2025-2026 curriculum and the 2026 AP® Physics 1 exam. Some of the recent changes include a new fluids unit, connections between circular and rotational motion, and 40 multiple-choice exam questions.
Are the questions similar to the AP® exam?
Students who have taken the AP® Physics 1 exam have said that the AP®-style questions in this course are very similar to the actual exam and really helped them prepare for the format and difficulty of the AP® exam.
Do I need a textbook or other materials to go with this course?
This is a complete course and no other resources are needed. You will need a scientific calculator (a calculator with sin, cos and tan functions) or you can use an online calculator like Wolfram Alpha. The problems can be printed out and worked on directly but you may want a notebook or tablet to have more room to work and take notes.
Are labs included in this course? What materials do I need for the labs?
Yes, this course includes virtual and hands-on labs which are optional. The virtual labs use free online physics simulations from PhET so they don’t require additional materials or prep time. The hands-on labs use materials that are cheap and easy to find so you can do physics activities in person. A list of the hands-on lab materials is included on this page. There are several virtual and hands-on labs for each unit so you can choose which labs you want to do.
Is this course self-paced? How long will it take to complete?
Yes, the course is self-paced and includes a pacing guide to help you plan out each lesson. If you go through all of the videos, problems and labs over a 9-month period you might spend about 3 hours per week on the course.
Can students work through the course on their own? How does grading work?
Since physics is a topic that many parents may not have a lot of experience with, the course is designed so that students can work through everything on their own and get help from the course instructor when they need it. Parents can also choose to review the material before a lesson and help their students if they get stuck. The course does not include automatically graded assignments (coming in the future) so either students or parents can grade the problems after the student completes them (solutions are included).
What if my student needs help or has questions while they use the course?
If you or your student have a question or need help while using the course, head over to the Physics Lab Discord server. You can ask questions and get help from the course instructor and other students. If you prefer 1-on-1 help you can also send the instructor a direct message on Discord or an email at chris@physicslab.app.
Can I use this course with multiple students?
Yes, you get lifetime access to the course and you can use it again with other students in your family at no extra cost.
Can I use this course for a homeschool co-op?
If you’re teaching in a homeschool co-op you may want to consider the AP Physics 1 Course - For Teachers which includes PowerPoint slides and other resources you can use to teach at your own pace. Each student can get a student license to access the course at a discounted price.
Can I just use some of the materials and not the full course?
Yes, you can just use some of the videos and materials in this course and combine them with other resources to create your own curriculum if you want. The course is organized so it’s easy to find the materials you want.
How does this compare to other resources like Khan Academy?
There are a lot of physics resources online but for some reason they don’t seem to include everything you need or explain things clearly enough for everyone to understand. That’s why Physics Lab was created. A lot of time and effort goes into producing the Physics Lab content so that the concepts are easy to learn. The videos and study guides include a lot of visuals so things are easier to understand. And it keeps getting better over time! Once you upload a YouTube video you can't change it, and most curriculum aren't really updated after they're created. All Physics Lab content is continuously updated and improved based on questions and feedback from students and parents. This course also comes with a Discord server where students can chat with the instructor and other students when they need help.
What is your refund policy for this course?
If you’re not happy with the course you can receive a full refund within 30 days of purchase. Refunds for this course will not be available between April 1st and July 1st with some exceptions.
